Description
Antique Sampler Reproduction Darning Sampler.

Stitch Count: 186w x 193h. The original sampler was stitched on 45 count linen.

Our model has been worked on 45 count Legacy Linen in Jersey Cream using Au ver a Soie silk threads.

Au ver a Soie 1003 in colour #499 was used for the first 10 darning motifs.
Au ver a Soie Surfine in colours #499 & #102 were used for the 3 woven motifs at the bottom of the sampler.

Alternative colours similar to the original are included on the chart.

Odile Therese Rauscent was born 9 March 1832 in Court-Saint-Etienne, a small municipality about 50 kms south-east of Brussels in Belgium. She died 6 January 1904 aged 71. She was one of six children. Her father was a farmer. Odile went on to have eight children of her own after her marriage to Charles Henri Fosse in 1855.
Odile attended boarding school at Pensionnat de Liberchies, about 30 kms south of where she was born. She stitched her cross stitch sampler in 1844 and her darning sampler around 1846. The last digit of the year is hard to make out as the sampler had been stapled to a board at that point.

We hope you enjoy stitching this sampler and will join The Crewel Gobelin SAL, commencing October 2021 aiming for a October 2022 finish!
