Although known as the Astronomical Ring, its fundamental principle is that of the Universal Solar Equatorial Quadrant. Its use was generalized during century XVIII. It is composed of a ring adjustable for several latitudes, a meridian ring with latitude scale, a folding hourly ring and a slotted central rule, with the graduation of the months, on which a small perforated cylinder moves. The time obtained is the local solar.
